Dear Fellow HellenelPhilhellene:
For the past 16 years, Pythagoras Children's Academy (PCA), a Greek-American day school, under the
guidance of The Greek Orthodox Church of St. Demetrios in Elmhurst, has strived to uphold the values of
faith, family and education. On this mission, PCA not only provides a high quality education for its
students, but does so while entrenching them in the Orthodox faith and Hellenic heritage. At PCA, we are
dedicated to "Embracing Our Past While Educating Our Future." This makes the existence and need for
institutions such as PCA more essential and invaluable than ever.
At Pythagoras Children's Academy we are making great strides forward each year. PCA is on par with
State Standards as our curriculum is aligned with Common Core and also includes the University of
Chicago's Everyday Math program. This year, PCA incorporated "The Daily 5" and "The CAFE"
reading programs in conjunction with the Fountas & Pinnell level reading system for guided and
independent reading. PCA provides computer-based learning enhancements such as !XL and has adopted
valuable assessment tools such as MAP and Aimsweb testing. PCA also offers technology in the
classroom to enhance student learning and enrichment via computers, Smart Boards and interactive
whiteboards. And, this year, our first-ever 4th grade!
Last year, thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, our 1st Annual Pythagoras Children's Academy Gala
was a great success! With last year's Gala proceeds we were able to purchase many necessary items for
our school, some of which included: laptops for all the teachers Kindergarten through 4th grade; locking
storage cabinets for each classroom; several new student desks; and importantly, a new Phonemic
awareness program for Pre-K through 4th grade to enhance our reading curriculum.
We have much more to accomplish and need your help! Our mission is to be one of the finest institutions
of early elementary learning--servicing pre-school through 5th grade -- while developing strong academic,
spiritual and cultural foundations, in an effort to preserve Orthodoxy and Hellenism. This mission is not a
small feat and requires a great amount of resources, both monetary and otherwise. PCA needs your
support to ensure it will be able to continue to educate and guide young Greek-Americans for many years
to come.
Click to the right for the "Save the Date" flyer for our 2nd annual Gala on January 31,2015, as well as an
Event Sponsorship form. Please offer your kind support to PCA by becoming a sponsor and joining our
effort to continue embracing our past while educating ourfuture.
Thank you for your support. We hope to see you on January 31st!
Sincerely,
Pythagoras Children's Academy
